A ballot of Luas drivers on a Labour Court recommendation aimed at resolving their four-month-long pay dispute gets under way today.

The Labour Court's recommendations include wage increases of up to 18.3% and the reversal of cuts to drivers' benefits.

SIPTU suspended planned stoppages on the Luas this afternoon and tomorrow morning at the Court's request to facilitate the two-day ballot.

So far the industrial action has shut down the tram service on 12 separate days since February.

SIPTU has not issued a recommendation to accept or reject the deal.

If the workers reject the recommendation, four further stoppages are scheduled for next week.
