Talks at the Workplace Relations Commission aimed at resolving the Tesco dispute adjourned this morning after 14 hours without agreement.
More discussions are planned for Monday 23 May.
In a statement, the commission said that in the interim it has requested that neither side engages in actions that would exacerbate an already difficult situation.
The row centres on planned changes to pay and rosters, which will affect around 300 long-serving staff who are on pre-1996 contracts.
Tesco employs around 14,000 workers across 140 stores.
A planned strike in 70 of the stores had been due to take place on Monday but was called off to allow for the WRC talks.
