A new database of Ireland’s non-profit organisations has been launched by Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform Paschal Donohoe.
Benefacts contains data on all 18,600 of Ireland’s NPOs and is aimed at delivering greater public transparency on the work and funding of the not-for-profit sector in Ireland.
The database includes all registered charities, and also thousands of other NPOs, including education institutions, social enterprises and sports and professional bodies.
The kind of data that can be accessed includes sources of funding, levels of funding, government and otherwise, income and turnover.
Benefacts, which is itself a non-profit company, is a result of a partnership initiative between the Government, The Atlantic Philanthropies and The Ireland Funds.
The Department of Public Expenditure and Reform will provide grant funding of €1.95 million towards the initiative over the period 2015-2017.
Match funding is being providing by The Atlantic Philanthropies and The Ireland Funds.
