NYPRO Healthcare Ireland has announced 47 lay offs at its Waterford facility.
It currently employs 197 people at the IDA industrial estate in the city.
The company said that it is releasing a number of agency workers and fixed term contract staff due to a temporary downturn in demand.
The Waterford plant, which opened in 2013, manufactures advanced respiratory and injectable devices for healthcare and pharmaceutical companies.
The company also has a facility in Bray, Co Wicklow.
