The group representing the majority of publicans has said it expects 5,000 more summer jobs than normal to be generated in the industry this year.
The Vintners' Federation of Ireland is attributing the job creation to increased tourism and the growing economy.
Irish pubs generate 12,000 additional seasonal jobs every summer.
However, the VFI said this should grow to around 17,000 over the coming months, with rising tourist numbers the main reason.
The VFI said tourism figures are already up 16% on this time last year and there is more of a rise expected in overseas and domestic tourism numbers this summer.
Publicans said they want the Government to reduce current levels of excise on alcoholic drinks in order to make Ireland more competitive.
The federation, which has 4,000 members, is holding a conference Wexford town.
