A Pakistan International Airlines Boeing 777 en route from Manchester to JFK in New York has made an emergency landing at Shannon Airport.

A spokesperson for Shannon Airport said an aircraft with 205 people on board was diverted having declared an emergency.

There are unconfirmed reports that the plane was diverted due to smoke in the lavatory however the spokesperson said he had no information as to what caused the plane to make the emergency landing.

The plane landed safely at around 2.30pm and the incident has been stood down.
