Two brothers who faced allegations in court that they had no authority to collect money on behalf of a charity, have had charges against them of theft and handling stolen property dismissed.
Micheal Doyle of Cashel Road, Killenaule, Co Tipperary and his brother Tony Doyle of Riverside, Urlingford, Co Kilkenny were each charged with theft and handling stolen property at Ard Chuain in Roscrea, Co Tipperary on 25 October 2013.
The two men were wearing Carrick-an-Suir River rescue jackets and had ID on them when they were questioned by gardaí on that day.
It is alleged they were selling lines for a sponsored walk for the river rescue charity the following day.
The charity claimed the sponsored walk collection was bogus and that no such walk was happening. It said that the two men had no authority to collect money door to door on their behalf for such a sponsored event.
They had the jackets satchels and identification documentation from the charity as a result of an earlier pen selling fundraising project for the charity.
After hearing evidence from the case at Nenagh District Court, Judge Marie Keane dismissed the charges against both men that they may have been prejudiced by a delay in serving them with summons in the case.
