At least 14,000 homes in West Dublin suffered power cuts this evening as a result of a fire in an ESB substation in Inchicore.
The ESB said the fire, which began at 7:25pm was a result of a transformer fault.
Nobody has been injured in the blaze which happened in the manned 220kv substation on Bluebell Avenue.
The fire resulted in power outages in Lucan, Tallaght and Inchicore.
Crews from ESB Networks were dispatched and have since restored the power but the fire is continuing.
Dublin Fire Brigade units from Tallaght, Dolphins Barn and Tara Street are attending the scene.
The Fire Brigade has advised residents close to the scene to remain indoors and keep windows and doors shut.
Members of the public have also been advised to avoid the fumes emanating from the fire.
