In a tribute to the actions of rebel leader Patrick Pearse on Easter Monday 1916, the Proclamation of the Irish Republic was read aloud under the portico of the GPO on O’Connell Street by Captain Peter Kelleher today.

The Irish flag was lowered to half mast during the event and President Michael D Higgins laid a wreath to honour all those who died.
