US Democratic presidential front runner Hillary Clinton has won the Missouri primary with rival Bernie Sanders conceding the contest.
Results for the contest, which was held on Tuesday, were slow to roll in because of the slim margin separating the number of votes received by Mrs Clinton and Mr Sanders.
Ultimately, Mrs Clinton's win was declared by just 1,531 votes.
The Sanders campaign had previously weighed the option to request a recount in the tight race.
However, in an interview Mr Sanders said he would "prefer to save the taxpayers of Missouri some money," as the winner is awarded just two additional delegates of the otherwise nearly evenly split spread.
Separately, Mr Sanders, responding to reports President Barack Obama called on Democrats to rally around Mrs Clinton as the likely nominee, said it was "absurd" to suggest he drop out of the race.
Mr Obama privately told a group of Democratic donors last Friday that Mr Sanders was nearing the point at which his campaign against Mrs Clinton would end, and that the party must soon come together to back her, the New York Times reported.
Mr Sanders, while saying he did not want to comment directly on Mr Obama's reported remarks, pushed back on the idea that his campaign had run its course and he should throw in the towel.
"The bottom line is that when only half of the American people have participated in the political process ... I think it is absurd for anybody to suggest that those people not have a right to cast a vote," he told MSNBC.
The White House said Mr Obama did not indicate which candidate he preferred in his remarks to the donors.
