Outgoing Minister for Education, Jan O'Sullivan, has told RTÉ news that she will not be attending this year’s teachers' conferences.
The country's three teacher trade unions are due to hold their annual gatherings in Wexford, Cork and Killarney in a few weeks' time.
The Minister for Education traditionally addresses delegates at all three.
The outgoing minister said she felt it would not be appropriate to attend the conference this year given that she now had no role in future policy decisions.
She said she had discussed the matter with the three trade unions, the ASTI, the TUI and the INTO, over the past few days.
The Labour party secured just seven seat's in this year's General Election.
Ms O'Sullivan was elected to the constituency of Limerick City on count six.
