An appeal has been issued to reunite a silver commemorative coin from the 50th anniversary of the 1916 Rising with its owner.

The ten shilling coin was minted in 1966 to mark the 50th anniversary of the 1916 Easter Rising.

It features a portrait of Padraig Pearse on the front and a statute of Cúchulainn by Oliver Sheppard on the opposite side.

The statue is on display in the GPO.

The coin was found in Dublin a number of years ago and recently came into the possession of the Garda Bureau of Fraud Investigation.

A Garda spokesperson said: "This coin contains a personal inscription which will help the owner identify the property when they seek to claim the coin."

Although an appeal has been posted on the official Garda Facebook page, the spokesperson said no-one has yet come forward.
