The PSNI chief constable has dismissed claims that its predecessor, the Royal Ulster Constabulary, had advance warning of the 1993 Shankill bombing in Belfast in which ten people were killed.

George Hamilton said he was "100% convinced" that the RUC had no knowledge of the bombing that could have prevented it.

On Monday, Northern Ireland's police ombudsman confirmed it had received a complaint alleging that the RUC had information that would have allowed the bombing to be prevented.

Mr Hamilton also said he was not certain the PSNI will be able to deliver justice to victims of the Troubles.

A legal review is being carried out into 56 'legacy' cases involving 97 deaths.

The PSNI chief constable said the current infrastructure is inadequate to deal with the sheer weight of material under examination.
