Motorists in the midlands have been urged to take extreme care as roads are slippy due to frost, ice and snow in places overnight.
One person was injured after their car skidded in icy conditions just outside Longford town. They were taken to the Midlands Regional Hospital in Mullingar for treatment.
A number of schools were closed in the north Longford area as a result of snow.
Temperatures are expected to drop to -5C overnight and Met Éireann has forecast a severe frost on untreated roads.

Main roads in Co Sligo are reported to be generally passable with care but many local roads
remain in very poor condition following overnight frost.
Sligo Co Council said it will monitor the situation and crews will be deployed to treat the main routes again
this evening if required.
