Wreaths have been laid in Dún Laoghaire Harbour in Dublin to mark the lives lost at sea this year.
The annual commemoration also remembers the 15 volunteer lifeboat crew who drowned on Christmas Eve in 1895.
The tragedy occurred in stormy conditions as the crew attempted to rescue the SS Palme sailing ship.
All 19 people on the vessel were saved.
Today's event took place on the East Pier in Dún Laoghaire at midday.
