The Fine Gael Executive Council has added John Perry to its election ticket in the Sligo-Leitrim constituency.

The decision to add Deputy Perry was taken after he began a High Court challenge, following his failure to secure a nomination at October's selection convention in the constituency.

Fine Gael's national executive is responsible for taking core organisational decisions for the party.

It met this evening to sign off on the decision to allow Deputy Perry to run for the party in the upcoming General Election.

The agreement was reached yesterday following a five day High Court challenge taken by the Deputy.

He had sought to be added after losing out at the selection convention. This evening's meeting took place at the party's headquarters in Dublin.
