A monument in Tralee extensively damaged by paint has been cleaned and restored by Kerry County Council.
It was discovered splattered in red paint by a member of the public who contacted gardaí.
The monument honours the memory of the 'Munsters' who were stationed in the town at Ballymullen Barracks from the 1880s until their disbandment in 1922.
Erected earlier this year in Tralee, it had been a source of controversy with some local councillors asking that the dedication be changed to include all those from Tralee who had died in WW1.
In June, a compromise was agreed which would see glass panels bearing the names, of all those who died, erected nearby.
This work is to go ahead in early 2016.
