A 64-year-old man has died following a fire in a caravan in Co Kilkenny.

An investigation is under way into the incident, which occurred in the early hours of this morning.

Emergency services were alerted at 1.15am and attended the scene at Cloone Road in Ferrybank.

It is understood the man had been staying in the caravan while his house was being renovated.

His body has been removed to Waterford University Hospital, where a post mortem will be carried out.

The scene has been preserved for a technical examination.

Gardaí said the fire is not being treated as suspicious.
