Yitzhak Navon, who served as the fifth president of Israel, has died at the age of 94.
Mr Navon's family confirmed that he passed away at his home in Jerusalem on Friday. He was born in the same city in 1921.
He entered public life after the war following Israel's creation in 1948 and held a variety of roles.
He headed the education ministry's culture department, before entering parliament, where he served from 1968-1978, eventually as part of Labour.
In 1978 he was elected president, a position he held until 1983.
He returned to parliament for another nine years as part of Labour in a number of positions, including education minister.
