Former Fine Gael junior minister John Perry is understood to have made an appeal at the Fine Gael parliamentary party meeting to be added to the Sligo-Leitrim party ticket for the forthcoming general election.
Mr Perry recently lost out at the selection convention for the constituency.
Taoiseach Enda Kenny is away and was not present at tonight’s parliamentary party meeting.
He had said after Saturday’s selection convention that the party would reflect on the issue before any decision was made.
Sitting Fine Gael TD Tony McLoughlin from Sligo and former TD Gerry Reynolds, from Leitrim, were selected after the lengthy selection convention.
The party decided to run one candidate from Sligo and one from Leitrim.
Mr McLoughlin beat Mr Perry to get the decision in Sligo while former TD Gerry Reynolds beat sitting senator Michael Comiskey in the Leitrim end of the constituency.
