The architect who oversaw the development at Longboat Quay has said that he cannot believe the deficiencies at the building and described the complex as a quality build.
Eugene van Jaarsveld told RTÉ's Liveline that he has no idea what the problem is, saying the complex was built according to regulations.
He added that he would not have a problem living in any of the apartments at Longboat Quay.
Owners of the apartment block have been told they must come up with €4 million cost of remaining works or face evacuation.
Mr van Jaarsveld said the complex was inspected when finished, but he cannot remember who inspected it, saying it was too long ago.
He did say, however, that it was approved by the fire consultant in the construction, John Greaney.
He said that Longboat Quay was built according to design and all regulations and requirements were adhered to.
Mr van Jaarsveld, who is now in Ghana, said that it was a design and build project by his office and that he was employed directly by Bernard McNamara.
He said that all apartments are separated by 200mm concrete walls and that where fire doors were required, they were installed.
Mr van Jaarsveld said that he was involved in all of the buildings built by Bernard McNamara.
He said that he knows there was nothing wrong with the build and that he can sleep with a clear conscience.
He said that he has not spoken to Mr McNamara about it and if he sees him, he will talk to him.
Mr van Jaarsveld said that he has no responsibility for the problems.
