A petition with 22,000 signatures calling for a boycott of Irish Water has been delivered to the Lord Mayor of Cork city.
Sinn Féin's Chris O'Leary formally accepted the petition and told a delegation from the People's Convention that the signatures sent out a very strong signal.
He promised to try to give it to Taoiseach Enda Kenny in the Dáil later this week.
The People's Convention has protested regularly outside Monday night meetings of Cork City Council, and on at least one occasion caused the meeting to be abandoned after entering the council chamber uninvited.
Last week, the lord mayor issued the group an invitation to meet today where the petition was handed over.
Diarmaid Ó Cadhla of the People's Convention said they welcomed the opportunity to hand over the petition, but would be continuing their campaign.
The previous lord mayor, Fianna Fáil's Mary Shields, had refused to accept the petition, asking the group to post it in, or give it to an official.
