O'Riordan case over alleged assault adjourned until December
Cranberries former lead singer Dolores O'Riordan, who was due to appear before Ennis District Court today in relation to an alleged assault at Shannon Airport last year, has had her case adjourned until 16 December.
Solicitor Bill O'Donnell said his client was undergoing medical treatment in a residential centre and would benefit from an adjournment period of three months.
Ms O'Riordan had been summonsed to appear before Ennis District Court in relation to an alleged minor assault on two airport police and a Garda after disembarking from an Aer Lingus flight from New York.
The singer is also facing an additional summons of resisting arrest at Shannon Airport on the same date.
Govt to extend contribution in response to migrant crisis
The Government is to extend its contribution to the response to the migrants crisis until 30 November 2015.
The LÉ Samuel Beckett will replace the LÉ Niamh at the end of this month and will deploy until the end of November "dependent on the operational demands and requirements airising."
Minister for Defence Simon Coveney said: "I believe we should continue to support Italy in a practical manner as far as possible and the Italian authorities have indicated that ongoing support is welcome".
17 Turks kidnapped in Iraq
Gunmen have kidnapped at least 17 Turkish employees of a company building a football stadium in the Sadr City area of north Baghdad, security officials said.
A police spokesman said that 17 Turks were kidnapped by black-clad gunmen in pickup trucks, while an interior ministry official put the number seized at 18.
Police said those kidnapped included three engineers as well as employees of the administrative department and labourers.
Neither official identified the company, but the website of Turkey's Nurol said it had been awarded a "design-build contract" for a 30,000-seat Sadr City Stadium.
Missouri executes man for 1989 killing
The US state of Missouri executed a man last night for taking part in a kidnapping and murder.
Roderick Nunley, 50, was convicted for his role in the kidnap, rape and killing of a 15-year-old girl near Kansas City in 1989.
After lengthy appeals, Nunley was put to death by lethal injection, local TV station KMBC reported.
Nunley confessed to the crime, as did partner Michael Taylor who has already been put to death.
The killing is the 20th execution in the United States this year, almost all of which took place in either Texas or Missouri.
Major delays as migrants climb on Channel Tunnel trains
Trespassers on the tracks of the Channel Tunnel and reports of migrants on train roofs caused major disruption for passengers overnight.
Two Eurostar services were eventually forced to turn back, one to London and one to Paris.
Another London-bound train was unable to get back to Paris due to a technical fault and some passengers complained they had been "abandoned" in the early hours of the morning as they waited for alternative transport.
Police had been called to Calais to reports of people on the tracks at the crossing, with hundreds of passengers stuck on carriages for hours while the trespassers were removed.
Foul play ruled out in Clondalkin death
No foul play is suspected in the death of a man whose body was found in Clondalkin on Monday night.
The man, aged in his 40s, was found dead in the back of a vacant house in Station Grove. A post-mortem examination found that his injuries were consistent with a fall.
A coroner's inquest will be held into the circumstances of his death.
Gardaí said the man, who was from Clondalkin, was not homeless and was formally identified yesterday and his family have been notified.
Man arrested over Carlow drugs seizure
A man in his 40s has been arrested after cannabis plants with an estimated value of €80,000 were seized at a house in Carlow yesterday morning.
Gardai carried out a search of a house at Barrowvale shortly before 11am.
The man was arrested and is being held at Carlow Garda Station.
A second man, aged in his 30s, was taken to hospital with chest injuries.
