In Spain, Google Street View car targeted by tomato throwers
A Google Street Car was targeted by tomato throwers at Spain's annual Tomatina festival as it tried to capture before and after pictures of the festival in which thousands of people hurl tomatoes at each other in the eastern town of Bunol.
The car reached the area as the hour-long food fight finished with dozens of youths clambering on top of it and pelting it with tomatoes. The car's windows and mirrors as well as its cameras were damaged, Spanish media said, but Google said no-one had been injured.
"The Street View team went to the Tomatina festival where they were going to collect images after the tomato fight," the company said. "Unfortunately there were still people when we arrived with the car, which ended up trapped between the people and suffered some damage."
Student arrested after 'active shooter' claims
A Mississippi State University student was arrested after his threats to harm himself and others prompted alerts about an active shooter and a lockdown of the campus.
The student was later determined not to have a gun, university president Mark Keenum said at a news conference, even though the university had sent out warnings of an active shooter as soon as campus police learned about a student threatening to kill himself and others.
Within minutes, campus police took the male student into custody.
Students were told to seek safety and alerts continued for about a half hour. At one point, the university said there had been no reports of shots fired or any injuries.
