Planned industrial action at St Ita’s Hospital in north Dublin has been suspended.
In a statement the Psychiatric Nurses Association said the industrial action was called off after an agreement was reached with the Health Service Executive to address a number of staffing and other issues.
It said nurses were due to begin industrial action, up to and including strike action, on Friday over the impact of staff shortages on St Joseph’s Intellectual Disability services at St Ita's.
PNA General Secretary designate Peter Hughes said the recruitment of up to 40 staff will begin in all grades and agency and overtime staff will supplement existing staff where necessary.
He said that following detailed talks with the HSE today, the association agreed to suspend its industrial action "only on the understanding that the HSE will fully honor the commitments it has given on staff recruitment and other related issues."
