The family of Barry Ryan, who drowned off the coast of west Cork on Tuesday, and Barry Davis Ryan, who is still missing, has visited the search site just outside Baltimore yesterday evening.

They spent about half an hour there and expressed their appreciation of the search teams.

The search team members expressed their condolences to the family - who included Ann Davis, Barry Ryan's partner and their children, 23-year-old Arthur and 12-year-old Charlotte, who raised the alarm on Tuesday, and who was able to show the search teams exactly where the tragedy had happened.

The search for Barry Davis Ryan will resume later today.

Divers said weather conditions in the area today were the best searchers have had so far, however, the search will be scaled back due to the anticipated deterioration of the weather.

A number of dive teams searched site throughout yesterday.

The bodies of the missing man's girlfriend, 20-year-old Niamh O'Connor, and his father, 51-year-old Barry Ryan, were recovered from the sea near Baltimore on Tuesday evening.

Divers from West Cork Underwater Search and Rescue were on the water at 7am.

Eamonn Barry of West Cork Underwater Search and Rescue said they had double the visibility today of previous days.

Today was the second full day of the search, which has been very intensive.

It is understood a group of people were walking close to the Beacon on Tuesday when one of them fell into the sea and two others tried to rescue them, before all three got into difficulty.

The alarm was raised at 6.40pm by a fourth person who remained on the shoreline during the incident.

Barry Ryan, a son of Penneys founder Arthur Ryan, was a senior executive with the retail clothing company.

Ms O'Connor from Glanmire worked at a Penneys store in Cork city.
