President Michael D Higgins has meet his Italian counterpart Sergio Mattarella in Rome.
The President is on a three-day official visit to Italy.
Later, he attended the official launch of a translation into Italian of a collection of his poems.
President Higgins yesterday officially opened the Irish National Day at Expo 2015 in Milan.
The President and his wife, Sabina, returned to Dublin tonight.
