Boil Water lifted in Wesport
A boil water notice in Westport, Co Mayo has been lifted.
The notice was put in place last month after a number of cases of cryptosporidium were notified to the HSE.
It was partially lifted for the town centre two weeks ago, when an alternative supply was provided from the Lough Mask treatment plant.
Irish Water announced this afternoon that all customers in the Westport area could now consume water from the public supply as normal.
Public registration to open for free under six GP care
The HSE has confirmed public registration for the under sixes free GP Care scheme will commence on Monday in order to facilitate commencement of the new service from 1 July.
Parents of children under the age of six will be able to register online at www.gpvisitcard.ie from Monday 15 June.
Aid groups call for permanent ceasefire in Yemen
A coalition of 13 aid organisations has called for a permanent ceasefire in Yemen ahead of UN-sponsored talks on Sunday on ending a conflict that has affected 80% of the population.
The relief groups also called for the lifting of an air and sea blockade imposed by the Saudi-led coalition that launched a a bombing campaign in late March in support of exiled President Abedrabbo Mansour Hadi.
They also called for "an end to arms transfers to those responsible for breaches of international humanitarian law, and a sizeable increase in humanitarian and longer term development funding."
A five-day ceasefire last month allowed aid agencies to reach civilians caught in the fighting but UN efforts to extend the truce failed.
Le Pen to sue party he founded over expulsion
Veteran far-right French politician Jean-Marie Le Pen on Friday sued the National Front party he founded over his exclusion from the group after a vicious row with his daughter Marine.
In the latest episode of a public family feud that has divided the party, the 86-year-old appeared in court in Nanterre near Paris seeking to overturn his suspension from the FN and his removal as honorary president of the group he founded.
Marine Le Pen, who now leads the party, suspended her father after he repeated inflammatory remarks he had made in the past, referring to Nazi gas chambers as a "detail of history."
Virginia police officer indicted over death of black man
A Virginia police officer has been indicted by a special grand jury over the killing of a black man last summer, officials said.
The decision comes amid a national outcry over police violence against minorities.
Norfolk Police officer Michael Carlton Edington Jr. was charged with voluntary manslaughter over the 6 June 2014 shooting death of 35-year-old David Latham, the Office of the Norfolk Commonwealth's Attorney said in a statement.
The nine-member panel did not return an indictment for second degree murder, according to a copy of the statement that was published online by local broadcaster WAVY-TV.
Champagne considers FIFA presidency run
Former FIFA official Jerome Champagne said he is considering whether to make another run for the presidency of soccer`s global governing body.
The Frenchman, who was a diplomat until he played an official role in the 1998 World Cup in France, warned that the majority of FIFA's members would not accept it if the game fell under control of what he described as the G7, meaning wealthy European federations and clubs.
In February, he pulled out from the race to challenge Sepp Blatter in last month's presidential election after failing to win sufficient backing for his bid.
Mr Blatter won the election to gain a fifth mandate but shocked the world of soccer four days later by saying he would step down as FIFA president in the wake of a corruption investigation by United States prosecutors.
Death of scientist, journalist Mary Mulvihill
The death has taken place of award-winning scientist, science communicator and journalist, Mary Mulvihill, following a short illness.
The 55-year-old was a founding member and first chairperson of Women in Technology and Science and wrote numerous books, on subjects including sustainable living, and biographies of inspiring women scientists.
Over the years she was involved in many science series on RTÉ Radio, including The Quantam Leap and the Goldlocks World.
She was also a frequent contributor to print publications, including The Irish Times.
Four arrested over Belfast incident
Four men have been arrested in connection with an incident at Blythe St in south Belfast on Wednesday.
The men, all aged in their 40s, were arrested last night on suspicion of attempted murder and possession of a firearm.
They have all since been released on police bail pending further inquiries.
