Part of Cork University Hospital was evacuated this morning after a ceiling collapsed.

The incident happened at around 8.30am as out-patients were gathering for a clinic in the ophthalmic unit.

Members of Cork City Fire Brigade attended the scene and it is understood the area suffered significant water damage.

A decision is now being made on whether to cancel out-patient clinic care for the day.
