A proposal to resolve the dispute over reform of the Junior Cycle has been agreed between officials from the Department of Education and union leaders.
A statement from the department says ASTI and TUI leaders and Minister Jan O'Sullivan have committed to the proposals, contained in a document to be presented on Friday.
The document will be presented to the executives of both unions, while the department will present it to all education stakeholders for discussion.
The proposals will be published in full following these meetings on Friday evening.
However, the statement does not mention if teachers will be required to assess their own pupils.
Ms O'Sullivan has outlined a number of key principles to reform, including the need to recognise a wide range of learning and reducing the focus on a final exam as a means of assessing students.
The document will be published with the intention of balloting trade union members on its contents as early as possible in autumn 2015.
