Stephanie Regan and Councillor Naoise O' Muiri were selected to run for Fine Gael in the general election at the Dublin Bay North Selection convention this evening.

Minister for Jobs, Entreprise and Innovation, Richard Bruton, was not selected.

The Fine Gael executive council is due to add him to the ticket tomorrow.

This was unanimously agreed by the convention.

It is understood there was a directive from Fine Gael HQ to pick two candidates.

Stephanie Regan has said she is delighted to have been selected and that she had a lot of support at the meeting.

She added that she was sorry that Richard Bruton was not selected, and said she cannot explain why that happened.

Ms  Regan added that she represents the North East end of the constituency, and she believes geography was a big factor.

Cllr Naoise O'Muirí said he had wanted to be a Fine Gael candidate in the general election, and had put his name forward to members who had chosen him.

He added that he had seconded the proposal to add Richard Bruton to the ticket, who he described as an excellent minister.
