An investigation is under way after an attempted bank robbery in Dunboyne, Co Meath this morning.

Two masked and hooded men entered the Bank of Ireland branch in the town through a roof shortly after 9am.

The men, who are believed to have been carrying firearms, threatened staff before attempting to open the safe.

They failed and fled the scene in a silver Hyundai car that was later found abandoned on Summerhill Rd outside Dunboyne.
