Around 50 bankers, politicians and regulators are due to appear before the Banking Inquiry in a new phase beginning in April.
The module will focus on banking systems and practices, regulatory oversight and crisis management and policy responses.
Chairman Ciarán Lynch said there would be a total of 64 public hearings, calling around 50 witnesses, starting on 22 April.
He said the new phase would represent a significant step up in activity for the inquiry team.
He said it would involve legal compellability of witnesses.
