A team of garda forensic investigators has begun examining a house outside Mallow in north Co Cork, where the body of a man was found over the weekend.
Gardaí are treating the death of 36-year-old Peter Murphy as suspicious after concerns were raised following a post-mortem examination.
Mr Murphy lived alone at a rented house at Shanovoher, between Dromahane and Bweeng, 10km from Mallow.
His body was found on Saturday afternoon by his landlord after a neighbour spotted broken panes of glass in the front door.
The body was found in the sitting room. Mr Murphy, who was originally from Castletownroche, had sustained head injuries.
A post mortem conducted by Assistant State Pathologist Dr Margaret Bolster led gardaí to treat his death as suspicious.
Details are not being released for operational reasons.

This morning a team of forensic investigators began examining the scene, while investigating gardaí began door-to-door inquiries.
Mr Murphy had been living in the house for the past 18 months, carrying out repairs on cars from time to time. Neighbours described his as a quiet, private person.
His last known contact was with his mother by telephone on Thursday afternoon.
Investigating gardaí have appealed to anyone who may have seen or spoken to him between then and midday on Saturday or who may have seen anything suspicious in the area over the weekend to contact them at Mallow Garda Station on 022-31450.
