One hundred and thirty two start-up companies and businesses were established every day in January, according to a survey conducted by business information site Vision-net.ie.
That is an increase of 22.5% compared to the same period last year.
The most popular industry for start-ups was professional services, accounting for just over a quarter of new companies last month.
The construction industry saw a 33% increase in start-ups.
Of the company start-ups in January 45% were located in Dublin.
A further 10% were based in Cork, while Galway, Kildare and Meath accounted for 12% of start-ups between them.
