A team of 15 doctors and nurses, funded by Irish aid agency Chernobyl Children's International, will fly to Ukraine at the end of the month to perform life-saving cardiac surgery on 30 children born with serious heart defects.
A cardiac surgeon at Kharkiv General Hospital said that the €150,000 raised in less than a month was short of a miracle.

Dr Igor Polivenok had appealed to people in Ireland for donations to continue his children's heart surgery programme.

The programme is funded by donations in Ireland to the charity, Chernobyl Children's International.
