A status orange wind warning is in effect for Connacht, Cavan, Monaghan and Donegal with gusts of up to 110kmph expected overnight.
A status yellow warning is in place for Munster and Leinster, bringing southwesterly winds of 50-65kmph, along with stronger gusts.
Gardaí have warned motorists to take care as conditions nationwide are wet and windy.
Drivers are advised to use dipped headlights and reduce speed.
There are a number of minor power outages around the country, although earlier outages affecting 1,700 customers in Galway and Mayo have been restored.
Some flights to and from Cork Airport have been diverted due to gale force winds, while a number of other flights are cancelled.
Passengers are advised to check with their airlines before travelling to the airport.
DART services are operational, although customers are being told to expect delays of up to 20 minutes.
