Six of those injured have been airlifted to Cork University Hospital, with the remainder taken to Kerry General Hospital in Tralee.
Emergency services, including four helicopters, were called to the accident at Knockaderry, four kilometres east of Farranfore, at around 6pm this evening.
Nine members of one family - two adults and seven children - were travelling towards Killarney in a Renault Trafic minibus, which was drawing a trailer.
The minibus collided head on with a Peugeot saloon car which was travelling in the opposite direction.
The car is believed to have been rented by a British family of two adults and three children.
The N22 Killarney to Farranfore road was closed following the accident but has since reopened.
