The broadcast charge to replace the TV licence will not be introduced next year.

Minister for Communications Alex White today said that the broadcast charge has merit.

Speaking on a visit to TG4, Mr White said that he hopes to bring proposals to Government late next year with the view to having clarity on public service broadcasting funding.

Asked about the actual charge and whether it might top the TV Licence fee of €160, he said that if anything, it would be less.
