A global financial services provider is creating 200 jobs at a new base in Dublin.

Fidelity Investments made the announcement as it opened its second Dublin office in Citywest.

The new employees will be working in technology and business operations roles.

The company's Irish operations cover areas including corporate services, research and development, international finance, and risk management.

The company has been in Ireland since 1996 and has two offices in Dublin and Galway.

The new jobs will see Fidelity Investments employ more than 900 people in Ireland.

It expanded its Irish workforce by 200 in 2012.

The company administers assets of $5 trillion and looks after the savings of 23 million people globally.

Its total workforce is 41,000.

The investment in Ireland is supported by the Department of Jobs through IDA Ireland.

The announcement was made at an event at the company's new offices in Citywest, which was attended by Tánaiste Joan Burton and Minister for Jobs Richard Bruton.

Elsewhere, Aldi has opened a new store in Cork city centre and re-opened its revamped Longford store, creating 25 jobs.

Supermacs has said it has bought a site on the M18 motorway in Clare and is seeking planning permission for a motorway services station.

It said the station could see the creation of 100 permanent jobs and 75 construction jobs.
