Two people have been rescued after becoming trapped on a cliff at Mahon Falls in Co Waterford.

Rescue teams described the situation as "very dangerous".

The man and woman were trapped 45.7m up the steep cliff with no way down.

They managed to call rescue services and South East Mountain Rescue assisted the Rescue 117 helicopter crew from Waterford in the operation.

Weather conditions were said to be good at the time.

The two people were not injured but had to be winched off the cliff face by the helicopter crew.  

They were brought to University Hospital Waterford for precautionary check ups.
