Shannon Airport has confirmed a British Airways passenger jet made an unscheduled landing at the airport this morning.

Flight BA-48 was en route from Seattle, Washington to Heathrow Airport when it made contact with Air Traffic Control at Shannon requesting permission to land due to a technical issue.

There were 220 passengers and crew on board the flight.

Upon landing, the issue was discovered to be more serious and a replacement aircraft was sent to Shannon to bring the passengers and crew to their destination.

The flight did not declare an emergency and operations were reported to be normal at all times throughout the incident.
