An investigation is being carried out in Castleisland, Co Kerry after part of a green area in a local housing estate collapsed.

A hole, five metres deep in places and 13 metres long, appeared in the Cahereen Heights estate this morning.  

Local people cordoned it off for safety reasons, and officials from Kerry Co Council visited to carry out interim safety works.

The area that collapsed is close to underground floodwater storage tanks.
