US President Barack Obama is to announce the action he is taking to reform the US immigration system tomorrow night.
In a message posted on the White House Facebook account, the president announced he will make an address to the nation at 8pm (1am Irish time Friday.)
"Everybody agrees that our immigration system is broken. Unfortunately, Washington has allowed the problem to fester for too long," President Obama said in the video.
"So what I'm going to be laying out is the things that I can do with my lawful authority as president to make the system work better even as I continue to work with Congress and encourage them to get a bipartisan, comprehensive bill that can solve the entire problem," he said.
The president will travel to Las Vegas on Friday where he will outline his plans in more detail.
President Obama has repeatedly promised to take whatever action was in his power to fix the "broken" immigration system if Congress did not pass legislation to do so.
Congress has so far failed to do that, despite a bill getting passed by the Senate in 2013.
The Republican party has repeatedly warned the President Obama that taking executive action on immigration reform would be a "big mistake".
There are an estimated 55,000 undocumented Irish people currently in the US, while 34 million Americans claim Irish ancestry.
