Nurses and midwives at Naas General Hospital are staging a protest to highlight overcrowding, staff shortages and what they claim is inadequate bed capacity.

Members of the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation are holding the lunchtime protest at the gates of the hospital.

The INMO trolley watch figures for the hospital for October 2014 claim there has been a 71% increase in the number of patients waiting on a trolley in the emergency department for a hospital bed, in comparison to October 2013.

The union claims the significant increase in overcrowding has resulted in patients being cared for on trolleys on corridors for the first time.
