The Irish Road Haulage Association has withdrawn a threat of further protest action.

Truck drivers held a four-hour blockade at Dublin Port on Monday, causing traffic disruption across the city.

Around 100 members of the IRHA were protesting over the road tax they pay.

It costs €4,000 to tax every six-axle truck in Ireland, compared to £640 (€823) in Northern Ireland.

The hauliers were also protesting over a levy of £10 on every truck entering the UK.

The IRHA said the protest threat was withdrawn because the Department of Transport had agreed to facilitate a request for a meeting.

A spokesperson said the minister would be happy to meet the hauliers, but no formal request for a meeting had yet been made.
