Protests took place at Clarehall in north Dublin this morning where Irish Water is installing water meters.

A number of locals and residents objected to them being installed.

A garda presence was maintained in the Elm Field Estate.

Meanwhile, Irish Water said it is on target to install one million water meters by the middle of 2016.

The Ombudsman has received more than 50 complaints about Irish Water since January, although water no longer comes under his remit.

However, Peter Tyndall said he was encouraged by comments by Minister for the Environment Alan Kelly to examine proposals to bring complaints about water back under the ombudsman's remit.
