Over 10,000 cyclists who took part in the annual Ring of Kerry cycle in July have raised more than €1.5m for charity.

The amount is a record for the event, which is in its 31st year.

Kerry Hospice Foundation, Pieta House and the Irish Red Cross are among the nine charities who will share the money.

The amount raised was announced last night at a function in Killarney, which was attended by hundreds of the cyclists who completed the 180km route.
