Negotiations are under way to introduce a direct flight from Shannon Airport to Rhode Island in the United States.
The Rhode Island Executive Director for Commerce has confirmed that talks were under way between the airport authorities on both sides of the Atlantic.
Taoiseach Enda Kenny, who has completed a trip to Rhode Island, also said that a direct flight was being considered.
He said business people in the US and in the midwest would see the development as being of great interest and potential.
