A 91-year-old man has been killed in a fire involving two oil tanks in Co Down.

Emergency services responded to a call shortly before 1am and attended the fire, which started at a domestic garage and an oil tank in Thorndale Park, Carryduff.

The fire quickly spread to another oil tank that ruptured, which caused a nearby detached bungalow on Hillsborough Road to catch fire.

Firefighters rescued a man inside the property, but he died at the scene.

The blaze took until 5am to extinguish and involved seven fire appliances, a Command Support Unit and around 40 firefighters.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
